Welcome to Sailing Texas! I teach people how to sail, and help people buy and sell sailboats. To navigate this site, click on the links in the BLUE box above, on your left are more links to Sailing Texas and links to other sites I find useful. On your right are links to all new and reduced price sailboats for sale in the Sailing Texas Classifieds, and an occasional other interesting link. Below in the middle I have news and other things about sailing.
The two most popular parts of Sailing Texas are the Sailboat Classifieds and the Photo Gallery. The Sailboats for Sale section usually has over 250 sailboats for sale, most with pictures. The Photo Gallery contains over 5,000 sailboats that have been listed for sale on Sailing Texas since 2002, a useful resource for anyone buying or selling a sailboat.
The Sailing Texas Forums now have over 350 registered members, with the Sailboat Wanted section the most popular. The How To and Video sections often have new articles on how to sail and repair sailboats. The Sailing Texas Bookstore has just about every book and video on sailing and sailboats. Find a place to rent or charter a sailboat on the Sailboat Rentals page. With over 6.0 gigabytes of information online, I sure you will find Sailing Texas useful. With over 5,000 webpages, some things can be hard to find, so if you can't find something use the Search function.

Click the picture above the Amazon ad for something new. My name is David Luckenbach and I'm a Sailing Instructor who teaches most often on Lake LBJ, Texas. Find out about my Sailing Classes here
We are located near the middle of Lake LBJ, a perfect place for my sailing classes.
We went to Canyon Lake and crewed for Forest in his Hunter 23, and made a video of the 2006 Wurstfest Regatta. We took 3rd place in class and had a great time.
On returning from England we discovered we had the wrong bag! We called United Lost and Found to report it. Interesting what United is doing to save money.
8/29/06 Went to a concert yesterday in Presteigne at St. Andrews Church where Alison's daughter Sally played her harp. Then spent the night in nearby Kington at the 300 year old Church House B&B which is really quite nice. Right on the border of England and Wales, the area is beautiful with history everywhere.
8/26/06 We saw the Victory, the Mary Rose and the Warrior today. Took a cruise through Portsmouth Harbor and had a fun day. The Victory is an awesome ship, still commissioned, and in dry dock #2, ready to sail.
8/25/06 We're in Portsmouth today, after a wonderful visit with Aunt Ethel in Wotton under Edge yesterday. Finally found a decent sailboat which we'll visit tomorrow. It's the HMS Warrior, but we're looking for the Victory which is also here in town, I'll get some more pics tomorrow
As many of you know I'm married to Alison Pryce. Fittingly, our first date was New Years Day, we helped the race committee at the Austin Yacht Club's Red Eye Regatta. While she is a sailor, music is her main love, she was the first woman musician at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London at the age of 19. I hope you will all visit her website, Music 4 Musicians. We hope to meet you all on the water!
I have begun the long process of putting my sailing class on the website. See the first installment, How to tack the Flying Scot. The Knot Videos are almost done, see the Videos section.
My first sailing video on the site was at the 2006 Easter Laser Regatta. Scott Young took the left end of the starting line in race 2. In this video you can see his start strategy, he is sail #177033 just past the orange chase boat. Sitting on the line, at 2 seconds before the start he leans his boat to leeward. At the start he pulls it back to accelerate across the line, then as soon as he's across he bears off a bit and does a quick roll tack to cut in front of all the racers still on starboard tack. A beautiful start to go on to win the race. Click the start triangle once or twice to play the movie, this video requires the Flash plug-in and audio.
I hope you will visit my wife Alison's other website, Blue Diamond Music. She works with composer Michael J. Lewis and has several CD's that are wonderful to listen to on a relaxing sail.
Happy New Year indeed! The Austin Yacht Club on Lake Travis hosted the first regatta of 2006 with it's Red Eye Regatta on New Years Day.
I went sailing on Lake LBJ December 29, 2005 with these nice folks from Austin. Really nice day in the 70's. First pictures with the new camera!
I was in Ohio in early August, this picture is on Hoover Reservoir just east of Columbus. Also went to Lake Erie and sailed on the Scioto River in Columbus.
For non sail boats, motor boats and watercraft, see the classified sections on PWC Texas. Free ads just like Sailing Texas, but for motorboats and personal watercraft.
2/7/05, See pictures and results from the 2005 Muy Frio Regatta at the Austin Yacht Club. It wasn't very cold and the rain missed us both days! Sailing Texas was glad to sponsor the first Muy Frio Regatta on Lake Travis February 5/6.
This was the last regatta for the 2004 Summer Texas Centerboard Circuit. Kyle Smith and Morris Camp of San Antonio did a great job, the TCC circuit was 7 regattas, and proved that Portsmouth handicap racing is fun. The first 3 places were only 2 points apart!
1st place, 15 points, David Luckenbach, Flying Scot
2nd place, 16 points, Morris Camp, Coronado 15
3rd place, 17 points, Jennifer Loehlin, Harpoon 5.2
4th place, 25 points, Bill Gillilan, Dolphin 17
5th place, 41 points, Kyle Smith, Buccaneer 18
See the final standings on the Texas Centerboard Circuit website.
If you have a centerboard boat, and you want to race, the TCC is a great circuit. You get to go to different lakes and experience the hospitality of several yacht clubs across Texas. The winner this year wasn't decided until the last regatta!
Sailing Texas was proud to sponsor the Stillhouse Sailing Club 2004 Heart of Texas Centerboard Regatta, Sept. 10/12, 2004. And proud of user donations helping Sailing Texas sponsor the 2008 Heart of Texas Regatta! Hope to see you there this year!
SECRET! This is a secret link to my grand daughter Clare's page.
6/26-27 I am gone racing at the Austin Yacht Club Centerboard Regatta, but I'll be back this evening to update the website. I won the Portsmouth class.
6/14 The Houston Yacht Club is having it's Leukemia Cup Regatta this weekend, June 18-20.
6/12 Lake LBJ is open for boating, I don't know about the others yet.
6/11 Now Lake Austin, Town Lake, and Canyon Lake are also closed
6/10 The LCRA has closed lakes LBJ, Inks and Marble Falls because of the debris in the water from the rain yesterday.
